BMW R 1300 GS to Launch in India on June 13

The R 1300 GS makes a shift when it comes to the design of the BMW’s flagship adventure tourer. While the older models used to sport an asymmetrical twin-pod headlamp, the R 1300 GS comes with an LED single-pod headlight with 4 DRLs.

Next up, the R 1300 GS also sports a new liquid-cooled engine that generates 145 hp at 7,750 RPM and 149 Nm of Torque at 6,500 RPM. This is quite a substantial increase from the older 1250 GS’ 134 hp and 143 Nm output.

Despite being more powerful, the 1300 GS is rather lighter by 12 kilos than the outgoing 1250, but with a longer wheelbase. The weight-saving is courtesy of the new sheet metal frame and the new 1300 cc engine, which now carries a litre less fuel than the 1250 GS.

It’s a pretty good tradeoff considering we get a more powerful engine and a lighter bike along with some new features such as a radar-assisted riding aid in addition to the list of riding modes, traction control, electronic suspension and cruise control.

For now, 3 variants of the BMW 1300 GS have been listed on the Indian website – GS Trophy, Triple Black and the top-spec 719 Tramuntana. While the first two have alloys, the Tramuntana is the only variant that runs on tubeless cross-spoked rims. Tyre sizes are common across the lineup at 120/70-R19 (Front) and 170/60-R17 (Rear).

The BMW R 1250 GS is only sold in a sole ‘Pro’ guide with a price tag of Rs 20.55 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). Expect BMW to continue with competitive pricing compared to its competitors, although the 1300 GS will most likely carry a premium than its predecessor.
